Location for November 12th Audition

This Saturday’s audition will be located at Scott County High School in Georgetown, KY. The address is 1080 Cardinal Drive Georgetown, KY 40324 and a map can be found here.

Drive around to the back of the high school and we will be using the band room entrance. If you get lost at any point please call (502) 320-9773.

As we are waiting for our equipment to arrive please bring a snare drum or set of tenors (if available) if you plan to audition on either instrument. We will have drums to play on but we may end up with more players than drums.

Audition Information for Monday, 03 October 2005

The audition music for the 2006 West Athens Percussion Ensemble is now available for download here. Please print this music and bring it with you to auditions so we can save trees and not have to distribute more copies than necessary. We will have copies available but only for those inidividuals that did not have a chance to visit the website. Please have the appropriate music for the instrument(s) you are auditioning on prepared prior to auditions. You are not required to memorize the music but how well you can play the pieces will be an important factor in determining if you make the line or not.

Regarding auditions, if you have not already done so, please fill out and submit your information to us via the online Audition Form as soon as possible. Auditions will be held from 9:00am to 5:00pm on 10/29, 11/5 and 11/12. Registration will begin at 8:00am. Location(s) can be found on the Events Calendar. Everyone will be on their own for lunch. There are a number of food choices within a short distance from the rehearsal facility and rides will be available if distances are too far to walk. We’ll cover those kinds of details the day of auditions. There is a $50 non-refundable audition fee to help us cover our costs. This is a flat fee so everyone will pay the same amount regardless if they attend all three or only one audition mini-camp. With this in mind, we recommend getting the most out of your money by coming to all three dates!

Also, with exception to the music available for download, you will not be required to have any specific pieces prepared. However, before we begin the group audition process we will evaluate each person individually. During this time we’ll ask a few questions and have you play anything you’d like. It does not have to be anything long or be a certain difficulty level but keep in mind this is your chance to shine and we love to be “wowed”. Having said that, you will fair much better if you play something well that is maybe slightly less difficult than if you were to attempt something very difficult but not play it very well. Our best advice is to not learn anything new, simply chose to play something you already know so we can see how you do with material you’re familiar with playing. It can be an exercise, a solo, something completely made up on the spot…whatever floats your boat!

All West Athens music is posted in PDF format. In the unlikely event you do not have software to open such files, we recommend downloading and installing the free Adobe Acrobat Reader program
